Booking a Session
I book maternity, birth, and newborn sessions exclusively. I take a limited number of sessions per month. This allows me to deliver a highly personalized experience for each of my clients.
Because I only book a few clients per month, it's very important that you contact me early to secure your spot on the calendar. I encourage expectant mothers to contact me very early in their pregnancy. For the fastest response, use the RESERVE page of this website to get in touch with me.
My session fee is $200. This fee is non-refundable and covers my time and skill only. Printed artwork and digital files are purchased separately.
I will post a sneak peek of one of your images within 48 hours of your session. We will schedule a reveal appointment within 2-3 weeks after your session. At this reveal appointment, you will see all of your images from your session. All print and digital orders are made during this appointment.
The newborn images you see on this website are of babies between 3 and 14 days after birth (Ideally, 5-9 days of age.). At this age they are still very sleepy and we can get those sweet curled up poses, and if we are lucky, some dreamy smiles! After this age, they don’t sleep as deeply, often don’t like being moved around into different positions and start to lose that “newness” or “curliness” that is so unique to newborn photography. After 14 days, babies also may become colicky, or develop “baby acne” and peeling skin. This results in limited poses and a less than ideal outcome. For this reason, expectant mothers and I work closely to schedule a session that will be in that limited time-frame. Newborn sessions are typically scheduled months in advance, with a flexible date that will depend on the actual birth date. Because I cannot guarantee the success of a session with an older newborn, I limit these sessions to babies 14 days old and under only. (Exceptions are made for infants requiring a NICU stay.)
To provide my clients with the highest quality, and non rushed sessions, I only take a limited number of sessions per month. It is important to schedule your session while you are still pregnant to avoid disappointment. This way, I can add you to the list of babies due for that month. You can then add me to your “To Call” list after you have your baby, and we will pick the best time that falls within the first 14 days. However, if you just came across my website, and have a baby under 14 days, please contact me, I will do my best to accommodate you.
Newborn sessions are done either in my home studio located in Grenada, MS, or in your own home (provided there is adequate light). It is bright, warm, and relaxed in my home studio. Perfect for your little one to be cozy and stay in dreamland. Take this time to sit back, relax and, maybe watch some T.V, while I capture beautiful images of your new baby. All newborn sessions are held in the morning or mid-day, by appointment only.
I believe in simple, clean, organic, classic portraiture, a style that focuses on your beautiful baby. I don’t use a lot of“crazy props”. Some of my favorite images have no props at all. Just baby. 100% beautiful on their own. This way, they don’t get lost in the image. I do have simple props available at the studio, hats and headbands and lots of textures that I like to use. Newborns often look most beautiful naked, or just with a hat, headband or wrap. Newborns are beautifully perfect…just as they came.
The arrival of a new baby is a life-changing event. It's a deeply personal journey for every expectant mother. I've been honored to attend, quietly, the births of my clients for nearly a decade. I form a personal relationship with them, getting to know their growing family as their due date approaches. Expectations are clearly discussed so that the mother's wishes remain paramount. Special consideration and care is taken for client privacy during birth sessions. All photos are strictly confidential without your explicit written permission.
Due to the unpredictable nature of labor and delivery, I remain on-call for clients beginning with week 36 of pregnancy. If you are having a scheduled delivery, I still remain on-call in case of an early arrival. I typically arrive at the hospital when mom is in active labor (5 cm and contracting regularly). I stay for the duration of labor and delivery, and for up to 2 hours afterwards to capture those precious first hours.
If you are on the fence about birth photography due to it's private/sensitive nature, I urge you to contact me about it. I'm a mother myself - I get it! I will never take photos you request I not take. I'm skilled in using flattering angles and lighting techniques that hide or show only what you want shown. And remember, you can always keep your birth experience photos to yourself. You just can't go back and recapture it afterwards. Contact me and let me tell you more about having me photograph your birth. Pricing for Birth Photography is different from portrait session pricing.
Please see pricing page or contact me for details.
A Fresh 48 Session takes place in the hospital (or birthing center, or at home) in the first day or two after birth. Generally, the sessions take place when family and friends arrive to meet your new baby for the first time. This is an excellent option for clients who don't want their birth photographed, but still want photos in the hospital. This is also a wonderful addition to Birth Photography for when babies come in the middle of the night. This way, everyone has a chance to freshen up and be ready for pictures, say, later in the afternoon. Fresh 48 Sessions are scheduled for mid-day, when guests would typically be arriving at the hospital.
